NSERC CREATE in Product Design for Human Comfort (PDHC) is a highly interdisciplinary job-ready training program that employs a user-centric approach and integrates concurrent physical, physiological, and psychological aspects of human comfort into engineering product design practices.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
(1) Training a diverse cohort of HQP to gain a strong foundation in human comfort assessments and design methods through specific coursework and multi-faculty and industrial research co-supervision and internship experiences.
(2) Offering a highly interdisciplinary learning and professional development setting, where trainees of varied backgrounds practice teamwork in user-centric engineering design processes.
(3) Supporting the transition of trainees to highly-skilled careers in pertinent sectors that can help Canadian users of next-generation consumer products achieve improved states of physiological, psychological, and physiological comfort, and hence enhanced product acceptance.
